What Is Step-Up Authentication?

Step-Up Authentication is an extra security layer that verifies your identity when you access your account from a new device, browser, or location. Even if someone knows your password, they won’t be able to log in without access to your email.

Why Did We Add Step-Up Authentication?

To better protect your genetic and personal health data, Step-Up Authentication:

  • Detects unusual sign-in activity

  • Verifies your identity before access is granted

  • Blocks unauthorized logins even if your password is compromised

This added protection helps ensure your Sequencing.com account stays private and secure.

When Will I Need a Verification Code?

You’ll be prompted to enter a one-time verification code when:

  • You sign in from a different IP address or geographic location

  • You use a new device or web browser

  • It’s been more than 60 days since your last sign-in from that location

How Step-Up Authentication Works

  1. Enter your email and password

  2. You’ll receive an email with the subject: “Sequencing Sign-In Code”

  3. Enter the 6-digit code from the email

  4. That device or location will be remembered for 60 days

About the Verification Email

  • The code expires in 30 minutes

  • You have up to 5 attempts to enter the correct code

  • The email will be sent from: [email protected]

  • If you need help, simply reply to the email to contact our Customer Success Team

Who Is Exempt From Step-Up Authentication?

Users with Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) enabled are exempt. If 2FA is active on your account, Step-Up Authentication will not be required.
