What's One Genome Technology?
One Genome Technology is Sequencing’s proprietary system that automatically merges all your DNA data into a single, high-quality digital genome. Whether your data comes from whole genome sequencing, uploads, or third-party services, One Genome handles the complexity behind the scenes so you don’t have to. Please visit our Education Center article 'One Genome Technology' to learn more about this proprietary technology that makes it easy for you to store and analyze your genome.
How One Genome Technology Works
-
Combines multiple file types
You might have several data files: FASTQ, BAM, VCFs, or files from third-party providers. One Genome Technology evaluates all of them and creates one unified genome for you. -
Selects highest quality data points
When overlapping data exists, One Genome Technology prioritizes the most reliable variant calls. It identifies and filters out inconsistent or low-confidence data so your genome is as accurate as possible. -
Handles multiple source uploads
If you upload data from different services (for example, 23andMe + Ancestry), One Genome Technology checks whether those files match the same individual. If they do, it merges them into your digital genome. -
Automatically and freely enabled
One Genome Technology is included in your Sequencing account. You don’t need to manually activate it, as soon as your DNA data is uploaded or sequenced, your digital genome is constructed.
Why One Genome Technology Matters
-
Simplified user experience
You don’t need to pick among data files when running reports. Just select your digital genome and the system handles the rest. -
Improved accuracy and consistency
The algorithmic cleaning and selection reduce errors caused by conflicting data and ensure that your genome analysis is based on the best available information. -
Future proofing for updates
As new data is added (uploads or updated versions), One Genome Technology can re-evaluate and refine your digital genome to reflect the highest quality data across all sources.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to select which DNA file to use for a report?
No. Once One Genome Technology merges your data, reports run using your digital genome automatically. You don’t have to choose individual files.
Will One Genome combine files from different services like 23andMe and Ancestry?
Yes. As long as those files belong to the same person, One Genome Technology will merge compatible data sources.
What happens if two files conflict?
One Genome applies data quality rules and algorithms to resolve conflicts, it chooses data with stronger evidence or higher consistency.
Is One Genome Technology an extra cost?
No. It’s a built-in feature of your Sequencing account and is automatically applied to your data.
