2-Step Verification

2 Step Verification

2 Step Verification adds an extra layer of security to your Sequencing account. Once enabled, you enter a one time passcode in addition to your password every time you sign in, so your account stays protected even if someone learns your password. This matters because your account holds sensitive health information drawn from 100% of your DNA.

How does 2 Step Verification work?

After you turn it on, signing in takes two steps. First you enter your email and password. Then you enter a passcode from an authenticator app on your phone. Only someone with both your password and your phone can sign in.

Where does the passcode come from?

The passcode is a random six digit number generated every 30 seconds by an authenticator app on your mobile device, such as LastPass Authenticator, Authy, or Google Authenticator. Because a new passcode is created every 30 seconds, keep your mobile device with you whenever you need to sign in.

Is 2 Step Verification the same as Two Factor Authentication?

Yes. 2 Step Verification is also known as Two Factor Authentication, sometimes shortened to TFA. The terms refer to the same added layer of account security.

How do I set it up?

Follow the step by step instructions to enable 2 Step Verification. If you need an authenticator app, see how to find and download the Google Authenticator app.
