How To Download DNA Data from 23 and Me and Upload to Sequencing.com

2026 Update: 23andMe filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in March 2025. Its assets were subsequently acquired by TTAM Research Institute, a nonprofit organization founded by Anne Wojcicki, in July 2025. Current 23andMe customers can still access and download their data. The steps below reflect the download process as it has been available on the platform. The 23andMe interface may change over time, so refer to 23andMe's current help documentation if you encounter any differences.

Why Download Your 23andMe Raw DNA Data?

Downloading your raw DNA data from 23andMe gives you the ability to use your genetic information on other platforms and analysis tools. Sequencing accepts raw DNA uploads from 23andMe for free, giving you access to a much broader range of health, ancestry, and wellness analysis through the Partner Marketplace than 23andMe provides on its own.

How to Download Your Raw DNA Data from 23andMe

  1. Log in to your 23andMe account at 23andme.com.
  2. Click on your name or profile icon in the top navigation to open your account menu.
  3. Select Browse Raw Data from the menu.
  4. Click the Download link to request your raw DNA data file.
  5. 23andMe will send you an email when your file is ready. Click the link in the email to download a zip file containing your raw DNA data.

The download process is typically quick. Once you have the zip file saved to your computer, you are ready to upload it to Sequencing.

How to Upload Your 23andMe Data to Sequencing

  1. Go to the Sequencing Upload Center.
  2. Click Choose File and select the zip file you downloaded from 23andMe.
  3. The file will upload and process automatically. Processing typically completes within a few minutes, though it may occasionally take longer depending on server load.
  4. Once processing is complete, your DNA data will appear in your Sequencing account under My Files.

What to Do After Uploading

Once your 23andMe data is in your Sequencing account, you can immediately start exploring your genetic information through the Partner Marketplace. Apps and reports are available across health, ancestry, nutrition, pharmacogenomics, fitness, and more, with both free and paid options.

The raw DNA data from a 23andMe genotyping test analyzes less than 0.1% of your genome. If you want the most comprehensive analysis possible, consider upgrading to Sequencing's whole genome sequencing, which reads 100% of your DNA across over 30,000 genes and is available from $399.
