Using Raw DNA Data at Sequencing.com

If you have taken a DNA test from a consumer testing company or clinical laboratory, you already have raw DNA data. That data contains far more information than any single company typically analyzes for you. Uploading it to Sequencing lets you run it through hundreds of apps and AI Reports in the Partner Marketplace to get personalized insights across health, nutrition, fitness, pharmacogenomics, and more.

How to get your raw DNA data from a consumer testing company

Consumer DNA testing companies such as AncestryDNA, 23andMe, MyHeritage, FamilyTreeDNA, and Living DNA generate a raw data file for each customer. While these companies analyze only a portion of that data for their own reports, they are required to give you access to your raw data file on request.

The steps to download your raw data vary by company. Sequencing has documented the process for the most common providers in the Knowledge Center under Upload My DNA Data for Free, with step by step instructions for each service.

The same basic process applies if you tested through a clinical laboratory such as LabCorp, Quest, Ambry, or GeneDx. All companies and laboratories in the United States are required by federal law to provide you with your genetic data on request. If you encounter any resistance, that law is on your side.

How to upload your raw DNA data to Sequencing

Once you have downloaded your raw DNA data file, go to the Upload Center and upload it directly from your computer. There is no file size limit and no storage fee. The platform accepts all common genetic data file formats, including files from consumer microarray tests as well as clinical formats such as FASTQ, FASTA, BAM, SAM, CRAM, and VCF.

For a step by step walkthrough of the upload process, see Uploading in the Knowledge Center.

What can you do with your raw DNA data?

Once your data is uploaded and your Genome is ready in your account, you can immediately start running apps and reports. The Partner Marketplace includes hundreds of free and premium options covering:

  • Health risks and preventive insights across over 30,000 genes
  • Pharmacogenomics, including how your genes affect medication response
  • Nutrition and diet personalization
  • Fitness and athletic traits
  • Rare disease screening
  • Bioinformatics tools for researchers and clinicians

Because Sequencing works with up to 100% of your DNA, a single uploaded file can power a wide range of analyses across all of these categories. Free reports are available at no cost, and premium reports show the price before you confirm.

Your data stays private and under your control

Your genetic data belongs to you. Sequencing stores it under a Privacy Forever policy: it is never sold to third parties, and you can delete it at any time. The platform is HIPAA compliant with encryption and access controls protecting all stored files.
