Sequencing.com Launches Free Genetic Analysis To Assess Risk And Severity Of Coronavirus Infection For Each Individual

Update as of 2026: The Coronavirus DNA Health Report referenced in this press release has been deprecated and is no longer available. This article is preserved as a historical record of its original launch in March 2020.

LOS ANGELES, March 19, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- Sequencing, a genomics company offering DNA analysis and whole genome sequencing, launched a first-of-its-kind free genetic analysis called the Coronavirus DNA Health Assessment. The tool was designed to quickly assess each user's individual risk of coronavirus infection and the likely severity of reaction to the virus, including the risks of serious illness or death.

Dr. Brandon Colby, Founder of Sequencing, said: "The coronavirus outbreak is not the first public health crisis our global society has faced in recent decades, but for the first time ever, through our Coronavirus DNA Health Report, genetic diagnostics and analysis are available that enable each individual to determine his or her likely level of infection risk and the severity of outcomes for the infected. From there, our Coronavirus DNA Health Report provides specific lifestyle and health insights that maximize prevention and preparedness."

The analysis behind the Coronavirus DNA Health Report was based on more than 20 peer-reviewed published genetic association studies performed by scientists throughout the world. The analysis covered more than 15 genes relevant to coronavirus susceptibility and severity.

The report analyzed data from a broad range of DNA testing sources including 23andMe, AncestryDNA, MyHeritage, FamilyTreeDNA, Living DNA, and genome sequencing data.

Dr. Colby added: "While the world is focused on responding to this pandemic, we believe it is equally important to look ahead to a time when COVID-19 or something like it emerges again. Our hope is that this analysis becomes a model for how genetic insights can be rapidly deployed to help individuals make informed decisions during a public health crisis."
