Genetic Genealogy Apps on Sequencing.com
Genetic genealogy apps are software applications for web or mobile that allow users to analyze their DNA to learn about their family history. Typically the apps do one or two things. Most apps will provide an ethnicity analysis, and some will help infer relationships between individuals based on matching segments of DNA.
To calculate ethnicity, an admixture analysis is conducted. An Admixture analysis is a biogeographical analysis that is used to infer someone’s geographical origins base on an analysis of their genetic ancestry. The analysis compares single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) against a sample or reference population. The results are based on your DNA’s similarities to one or more of the reference populations.
Test takers should be aware that the accuracy of any ancestry test depends on the reference populations, and not all tests will accurately represent your family history. Because of this, Sequencing.com is dedicated to offering a wide assortment of genealogy apps so that our users can select which app is best for them. Today we offer one genealogy app, but that will soon be two. In the future, we plan to offer many more!
EDCG Ancestry & Genealogy App
The Ancestry & Genealogy app was created by Eone-Diagnomics Genome Center (EDGC). EDGC is the international joint venture established in 2013 between EONE Laboratories and Diagnomics. Since it’s inception, EDGC has partnered with important genomics players such as Illumina, Microsoft, and now Sequencing.com.
When using the EDGC Ancestry & Genealogy app, Sequencing.com securely transmits your genetic data to EDGC to complete the analysis. To maintain the security of your genetic data, the only information provided to EDGC is your anonymous genetic data. EDGC does not keep a copy of your genetic data after your data is processed by this app and does not use your data for any other purpose. Once transmitted, EDCG will begin performing its highly complex genetic analysis that can take several hours to complete. When the app completes, you’ll receive an email with a link to your results.
You’ll be able to securely access and review your genealogy results using any computer, tablet or phone by signing into your Sequencing.com account. You can also download your genealogy assessment as a PDF report.
24Genetics Ancestry & Genealogy App
24Genetics is a biotechnology company specialized in direct-to-consumer genetics (DTCG). Its portfolio includes DNA tests for ancestry, health prevention, pharmacogenomics, nutrigenetics, sports, and skin care.
Sequencing.com is very excited to partner with 24Genetics because their ancestry test includes results for more than 400 geographical areas, making it one of the most detailed on the market. This is espcecially true for the ethnic groups of Germany and France which have often been lumped together simply as ‘Western European’ by many other tests on the market.
Once the test is live on Sequencing.com, users will be able to purchase and use it just like like the EDGC app. Similarly, Sequencing.com will ensure your data is safe by securely transmitting your anonymous genetic data to 24Genetics. When the app completes performing the analysis, you’ll receive an email with a link to your results.
Share Your Genealogy App Results
We all know the fun in taking a genealogy DNA test is sharing the results with your family and friends, and that is why we have made it easy for you to share the results. Once you receive the results of EDGC’s Ancestry & Genealogy app, simply click the ‘Share’ button in the top right corner of the results. Enter the person’s email address you want to share the results with and that’s all. The other person will then be able to access and review your genealogic assessment.
So try the EDGC app today, or come back for the 24Genetics test when it is live, and start learning about your past. And don’t forget to share your results, because your family will love to learn about their story as well!
