If you have already taken a DNA test, the raw data that was generated contains far more information than any single testing company typically analyzes for you. Uploading that raw data to Sequencing lets you run it through a wide range of apps and reports in the Partner Marketplace, turning genetic data into personalized health, wellness, and longevity insights.
What is DNA raw data analysis?
DNA raw data analysis is the process of analyzing genetic information that has been digitized as computer data. Apps designed to process DNA data analyze your genetic information, compare the findings to scientific research, and generate reports. Those reports can provide meaningful information about you and your family, such as health conditions you may be genetically predisposed to, how your body responds to medications, how your genes relate to nutrition and fitness, and more.
Where does DNA raw data come from?
Raw DNA data is generated any time a genetic test is performed. It comes from several sources.
Consumer DNA testing companies. If you have tested with a company such as 23andMe, AncestryDNA, MyHeritage, or FamilyTreeDNA, a large amount of raw DNA data was generated for you. While these companies analyze only a portion of that data for their own reports, they do provide access to your raw data file, which you can download and upload to Sequencing for deeper analysis.
Clinical laboratories. Clinical labs provide raw DNA data directly to consumers, healthcare providers, and patients. Many now offer whole exome sequencing and whole genome sequencing, which produce the largest amount of raw DNA data and the greatest opportunity for analysis.
Whole genome sequencing through Sequencing. Sequencing offers clinical grade whole genome sequencing at 30x coverage, CLIA certified and highly accurate. When you sequence your genome through Sequencing, your data is automatically available in your account and ready for analysis, with no separate upload step required.
How do I upload my raw DNA data?
If you have raw DNA data from a previous test, you can upload it for free using the Upload Center. The platform accepts data from virtually any genetic testing source, including all common file formats such as FASTQ, FASTA, BAM, SAM, CRAM, and VCF, as well as raw data files from consumer testing companies. There is no file size limit and no storage fee.
Once your data is uploaded and your Genome is ready in your account, you can immediately start running apps and reports from the Partner Marketplace.
What can I do with my raw DNA data on Sequencing?
The Partner Marketplace includes hundreds of apps and AI Reports across categories such as health, nutrition, fitness, pharmacogenomics, rare disease screening, and bioinformatics. Because Sequencing works with up to 100% of your DNA, covering over 30,000 genes, a single Genome can power a wide range of analyses. Some reports are free, and premium reports show the price before you confirm.
Apps in the Partner Marketplace work with data from almost any genetic test, so whether your data comes from a consumer microarray test or a full clinical whole genome sequence, you can use it on the same platform.
Do I have the right to access my raw DNA data?
In the United States, the answer is yes. Federal law mandates that a person has the right to obtain the results of laboratory testing directly from the company that performed the test. This means that if you request it, the company that performed your genetic testing is required to provide you with your genetic data. The relevant regulation is the CLIA and HIPAA access rule, which established direct patient access to laboratory test results.
How is my data kept private?
Sequencing stores genetic data under a Privacy Forever policy. You own your data, it is never sold to third parties, and it remains under your control. The platform is HIPAA compliant and uses encryption and access controls to protect stored files. You can also delete your data at any time.
